Decatur Marble & Granite Inc. has been a family owned and operated business, operating from the same location for over 65 years, when Mr. Joe Hoover bought the business from the original owner. The business has been in operation over 95 years.
Mr. Hoover was a WWII Veteran, and after returning home from the war, worked in the monument business with his father in law in Haleyville, AL before returning to Decatur. In 2009, Mr. Hoover’s daughter and son in law, Cindy and Johnny Tapscott, bought the business. Mr. Hoover passed away in 2012, but his legacy continues with three generations working in the business at the present time.
Our goal is to provide quality service and treat everyone with care and compassion. Our company has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. Along with our Decatur location, we also have Athens Monument Company located at 805 South Clinton Street.

A World War II veteran, Mr. Hoover returned home from serving his country and worked in the monument industry alongside his father-in-law in Haleyville, Alabama, before bringing his experience and dedication back to Decatur. His work ethic, values, and commitment to families became the foundation of our company.
In 2009, Mr. Hoover’s daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Johnny Tapscott, proudly continued the family legacy by purchasing the business. Although Mr. Hoover passed away in 2012, his influence lives on. Today, three generations of the family remain actively involved, honoring the same standards of quality and compassion that have guided us for decades.
